CASUAL LESSONS

- Casual lessons generally involve a student having a lesson every 2-6 weeks, or of course less often than this if preferred.

- As the name suggests, casual students do not have set days or times for their lessons, and lesson days and times may not always be the same.

Casual lessons are an ideal option for;

- anyone that doesn’t have the time or availability to attend rostered weekly lessons

- a hobby musician (maybe just wanting to learn specific songs or specific elements or aspects of music or an instrument)

- someone unsure about taking up lessons or an instrument (ideal as a trial with no permanent commitment needed)

- anyone just looking for a bit of direction or development with their instrument or music

- a musician wanting to learn another instrument aside from their primary instrument

- a student only wanting or requiring a minimal number of lessons

- purchasing as a gift voucher for a friend or family member (max. 3 x 30min lessons)

All ages, abilities and interest levels welcome!

All of our instrument lessons include:

- Learning your instrument

- Music theory; from basic to advanced, from only the most relevant to the most thorough and comprehensive - depending on the needs and wishes of the student.

- Songs

- Activities

- Games

"To get the best out of our lessons and our students, all of our lessons are tailored for each student; taking into account things such as the age, ability and interest level of the student. Every student is unique and has different musical needs, aspirations and goals! We're extremely mindful of teaching our students in a way that is the best to get the best out of them!" - Budding Musician Mission Statement

MOBILE LESSON INFORMATION

Studio lessons are the most popular lessons so this often leaves a limited opportunity and availability for mobile lessons.

Studio lessons generally become available more often than mobile lessons, are more sought after, and easier to accommodate. This is because studio lessons are usually the most cost effective and overall best value for most people.

However, mobile lessons are certainly worthwhile and sometimes the only way in which a student can take up lessons! They can even sometimes aid a student and get the best out of them as they are learning in the comfort of their own home or school! As always it is a personal thing and everyone is different, but we are extremely happy to offer mobile lessons for those who need them and to accommodate students as best we can, so that everyone has the opportunity to learn music and follow their dreams!

Some suggested minimum starting ages:

GUITAR LESSONS:

  • Age 4-7:  The younger the student is the more the lessons would only involve the Music Appreciation Program in the beginning, focusing on the language of music and learning some basic music theory first to help make it easier to understand music and then the guitar itself, this in turn can make learning how to play the guitar a lot easier and more fun! Generally, a ½ or ¾ size guitar only (depending on the physical size of the student; comfort and ease of playing is essential!) The transition into guitar specific elements would be a gradual process at these ages.

  • Age 7-8: A great time to start learning the guitar and having proper guitar lessons! Generally, a ½ or ¾ size guitar would still be best for any child under 10-12, but again the size of the guitar will be determined by the physical size of the student!

BASS LESSONS:

  • Age 4-8: The lessons would only involve the Music Appreciation Program in the beginning, focusing on the language of music and learning about some basic music theory to help make it easier to understand music and the bass itself. In order to make learning how to play the bass a bit easier as they get older, some guitar lessons and instruction can also be used first at this young age if desired.

  • Age 8-9: We would typically recommend starting bass around age eight or nine, compared to seven or eight for guitar. This later age is suggested because the bass has heavier strings and a longer neck, making it more difficult for younger students. There are exceptions to this rule of course: a physically smaller nine-year-old may not be ready for the bass, while a seven-year-old who is tall for their age may be fully equipped to play.

DRUMS & PERCUSSION LESSONS:

  • Age 4-6: Generally, the lessons would mostly revolve around the Music Appreciation Program in the beginning with a focus on rhythm and percussion, gradually shifting towards specific drum lessons as they get older.

  • Age 7-8:  A fine time to learn and focus on drums, kit and drum set up should obviously be of an appropriate size for the student!

KEYBOARD LESSONS:

  • Age 4-5: The lessons would revolve around the Music Appreciation Program in the beginning, gradually shifting towards specific keyboard lessons as they get older and as they become more suited to this type of lesson.

  • Age 6-7: A great time to start proper keyboard lessons, physical size isn’t overly important when playing the keyboard and any child this age really has the potential to enjoy playing and to progress well!
